For July, our most patriotic month, serve Americano cocktails all around. Some sources say the cocktail got its name because Americans traveling in Italy (where the drink originated) took a shine to it. And who wouldn’t? Combining the spicy, bitter-orange refreshment of Campari with the sweetness of vermouth and the fizz of club soda, it’s an irresistible summer cooler. Whatever the name’s origin, think of it as a nod to our good taste.

For each cocktail:

1  ounce Campari

1  ounce sweet vermouth

1  ounce club soda

Orange peel twist and/or orange slice

1. Pour the Campari and vermouth over ice in a rocks glass. Add a splash of club soda. Garnish with both an orange peel twist and/or orange slice.
