Bloggers We Love

At Relish, we consider bloggers to be some of the best purveyors of stories and recipes in the food world. And we are particularly drawn to those who are propelled by an inexhaustible love of food and zeal for the community and process—a quality the following women share. In 2013, these bloggers worked alongside us or were featured by Relish and provided a consistent source of both inspiration and friendship. So it may go without saying, but add these good people to your blog roll ASAP.

Pin and remember the bloggers in one beautiful pin.

How Sweet it Is

Jessica Merchant

Jessica Merchant

It is incredible how a single delectable photograph can queue your stomach to rumble and your mouth to salivate—and what’s even crazier is how Jessica Merchant’s have an uncanny ability to ignite those sensations every time. Fortunately for us, we came across her photography often in 2013; aside from her highly active, free-spirited blog and frequent appearances on Pinterest and Buzzfeed lists, Jessica photographed a variety of exclusive recipes for Relish. Her photograph of our Buttermilk Challah French Toast with Praline Clusters is to die for. We’re not sure how she had the time to toggle our shoots with a recipe post every day, but we’re sure glad she did.

In Jennie’s Kitchen

Jennifer Perillo

Jennifer Perillo

Jennifer Perillo of In Jennie’s Kitchen uses her homespun recipes to paint an honest picture of life through all of its trials. When her husband passed away in 2011, she found that cooking was “the thread that helped her keep it all together” in raising her two young daughters. So instead of shying away from her already popular blog, she let us in and undoubtably helped others experiencing similar grief. Jennifer has been a regular contributor to Relish Magazine for years, and in 2013, she brought her maternal know-how to our Relish for Moms blog.

Handle the Heat

Tessa Arias

Tessa Arias

If you are a sucker for bright, bold photography paired with comprehensive recipes and honest reviews and rundowns, look no further than Tessa Arias and her blog, Handle the Heat. Offering up everything from simple baked sweets to savory dinner options, she’s certainly no one-trick pony. This year, we partnered with Tessa on our Kitchen Deconstructed Series, where she explored the wide world of ingredient variations, starting with recipes for brownies, cupcakes, dinner rolls, pie crusts and truffles.

Reclaiming Provincial

Carey Nershi

Carey Nershi

When Carey Nershi partnered with us earlier this year on a Relish Guest Pinterest Board, we had no idea it would turn into a work of Pinterest art. Focused on desserts that use non-sweet elements for balance and complexity, Carey curated a stunning pinboard of recipes from around the web that were skillfully arranged according to each photograph’s color scheme. Though, after a paying a visit to Reclaiming Provincial, this attention of detail should come as no surprise—Reclaiming Provincial is an exceptionally dreamy and well-written corner of the web.

Salted and Styled

Salted and Styled

Chia Chong / Styling by Libbie Summers

We love when food infiltrates every facet of life—because an ingredient can become so much more than dinner. A single ingredient can become an art piece, influence the decor of a room, even become the heart of an essay! A collaborative effort headed by the multitalented Libbie Summers, Salted and Styled chooses one ingredient a week and explores all the ways it can inspire us. Libbie, along with photographer Chia Chong, brought some of that creativity to Relish.com this past November with their Creative Holiday Pie Crust Designs—a favorite feature from the year.

Food on Fifth

Food on Fifth

Teresa Blackburn

If you’ve ever found yourself swooning over photography in Relish Magazine or here on Relish.com, there is a good chance it was styled (and even photographed) by industry professional Teresa Blackburn. Teresa’s penchant for food is also showcased boldly on her colorful blog Food on Fifth. Why do we love her blog? Because she’s the kind of blogger we can trust with our dinner—and she knows the value of a post goes beyond a pretty picture (even though the blog is busting with them). Aside from toying in the kitchen, Teresa is an avid artist and crafter, and over the past year, she shared some of her favorite projects on the Relish Style Blog.

For the Love of the South

Amber Wilson

Amber Wilson

Do you have an adoration for Southern cuisine? Ok—how about good recipes, delightful vignettes and inspiring images? So do we. Hence the reason we fell in love this year with For the Love of the South and its passionate author Amber Wilson. Amber is particularly talented at inspiring emotion within her readers, whether it’s nostalgia or a longing for home (even if that isn’t in the South). She was able to harness these feelings in her Relish Guest Pinterest Board too, which focuses on, you guessed it, the South.

Vanilla Bean Blog

Sarah Kieffer

Sarah Kieffer

Sarah Kieffer’s elegance and keen eye keeps her blog consistently beautiful, creative and delicious. First catching our eye back in January, we included Sarah in our Top Food Pinners to Follow on Pinterest and were honored to have her as our very first guest pinner. To this day, it’s a challenge to resist the urge to stalk and repin every beautifully curated image she selects on Pinterest—and we’re not sure we want to.

In Sock Monkey Slippers

Meredith Steele

Meredith Steele

Cooking for kids doesn’t mean dinner needs to be “dumbed down.” No blogger knows this better than the talented Meredith Steele over at In Sock Monkey Slippers. In August we were so smitten with her healthy spin on the Foot Roll Up we decided to put it on the magazine’s cover. On her own blog, Meredith routinely dresses up family dinners with options to please all types of palates (big and small)—we dare you to find someone willing to turn away her Tortellini with Roasted Root Vegetables.

Love and Olive Oil

Lindsay Landis

Lindsay Landis

Lindsay Landis and Taylor Hackbarth, the couple behind Love and Olive Oil, run a top-notch blog that is both approachable and hunger-inducing all at once. While we routinely visit them for all things sweet, their knack for serving savory options is also evident and is showcased in this year’s Breakfast for Dinner, their sophomore cookbook. Focused on, you guessed it, having breakfast favorites spun for dinner, we published their tasty Bacon Fried Rice in our March Breakfast Issue.

Chez Us

Denise Woodward

Denise Woodward

With a tagline of “she cooks, he devours,” it seems there is little Denise Woodward and partner-in-crime Laudalino Ferreira aren’t willing to try (and subsequently succeed at) in the kitchen. Pair that adventurous attitude with beautiful photography, home-cook friendly recipes and prolific postings and you have the joy that is Chez Us. We were lucky to have Denise develop Beef Stew, Roasted Potato Garlic Soup and White Chicken Chili for Relish this fall—and if you don’t mind us saying, they are all winners.

Starving off the Land

Tamar Haspel

Tamar Haspel

When Tamar Haspel traded her Manhattan city life for the wooded lakeside acres of Cape Cod, she and her husband Kevin resolved to live off the land. That meant raising pigs, hunting, fishing and growing as much of their food as possible. Tamar’s thought-provoking and witty posts detail her adventure to a tee which constitutes everything from shucking oysters to slaughtering pigs for the first time. This year, Tamar also waxed her writing talent for Relish as a regular contributor in our magazine as well as online.

Hummingbird High

Michelle Lopez

Michelle Lopez

For Michelle Lopez, what began as an obsession with the Hummingbird Bakery in London turned into a heartfelt and lovely expression of life through baked goods. Each week, Michelle shares events from her life partnered with decant desserts, all the while staying relatable and humble in her journey to baking greatness. Her obvious knack for all things sweet made Michelle a natural choice for developing our key Apple Crisp recipe back in September.

The Novice Chef

The Novice Chef

Jessica Segarra

There are occasional moments here at Relish where we just can’t get an idea out of our heads—and this past February, that idea was Jessica Segarra’s Marbled Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies. The precious presentation seamlessly fuses multiple dessert elements and pulled at our heartstrings so persistently we found that had to feature the brownies on our February cover. And those brownies certainly aren’t the only stunners The Novice Chef has to offer. Her posts are routinely swoon worthy.

The Little Kitchen

Julie Deily

Julie Deily

Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen is a sweet spirit with a fresh and sharply designed blog to complement her soul’s sentiment. Though she first intrigued us with her multitude of baked goods recipes, Julie’s recipe box is varied and will take you from breakfast to dinner and everywhere in-between. Curious to see what her favorite summer fruit dishes are from around the web? Check out her beautifully curated Relish Guest Pinterest Board.
